Gary & Caryl Loper's Testimonial Gary & Caryl Loper, St. Petersburg,
FL My wife Caryl and I have been on the Gk Lifestyle since I was certified as a Genetic Key Lifestyle Coach in late July 2007. I have struggled with weight/fat issues most of my adult life. Caryl and I have been together for four years and of course as in most relationships a lot of your activates are surrounded by food. When we meet Caryl weighed 118 (5’4”)and over the next couple years gained 18 pounds, through the honeymoon process, the reoccurrence of a medical issue and menopause. For me, at the time of our first date I weighed about 230 (6’) and the same process ballooned me up to 246. We were very aware of many factors of what we should have been doing to diet and loose the weight. Every program we thought might work, didn’t for us and we got fluffier, clothes did not fit well, we were not comfortable in our own skin and a lot of emotional issues were brought to the surface—because we were not comfortable with what we saw in the mirror and we knew the real person inside was not want we were seeing. In years past Dr Nugent was a part of the Metabolic Profile system and with that system I was able be in the best shape I had been in since being a child. For one reason or another, that system did not gain acceptance and with it that loss, I fell back into my old patterns. When I heard Dr Nugent had created this system I was confident, based on my previous success and his depth of knowledge and being on the leading edge of science and the mechanics of the body I knew I would be able to get back on track. Caryl and I have been very committed to the GK Lifestyle and have seen great results.
Caryl’s story is that if given her choice she would eat a strict vegitairian diet. When discovering her genetic type needed much more protein than she was eating, she added protein by adding nuts, eggs, chicken and fish to her diet and started seeing results right away. I realized that I had been eating counter to my genetic type my entire life. I loved veggies but in working in hospitality for many years and family patterns that were heavy in proteins and mainly fats I got very fluffy. I have learned to be very mindful of the fat content, because those foods tend to stay with me a lot longer. A very important factor we discovered in this journey was an awareness of activity. Early in April, week 38, we were feeling pretty good about the changes in our bodies. I had lost 33 inches and Caryl 21 inches. We had the opportunity to have our body composition tested with a DEXA unit and learned that our body fat—both of us—was over 30%. It was recommended to use the pedometer and track the number of steps and increase to promote the body’s ability to burn fat and build lean. One of the seven steps in the GK system is activity. We were alarmed the first week we wore the clickers how little we actually moved. We decided to aim for 10,000 steps a day –but were not very strict with ourselves but more inch loss was apparent for both of us. In July we increased our steps to 12.000 a day. Caryl had los the weight and inches she wanted and wanted to increase muscle and I still needed to lose more belly fat. Our inch loss has not changed very much in the last month on paper, but we can see a vast increase in tonality in legs, hips and waist primarily, and smaller amounts in chest and arms. We believe that this program is truly the only real program people need to be on in order to provide the balance of foods to fuel the body so it can operate as designed. It is a commitment that can not be taken lightly. But at the same time we need to acknowledge that our bodies did not get to the state they did overnight and this is an inch by inch process. Measuring every week you will see progress that will never show up on the scale. In working together we are keeping each other on track and support each other in the journey. Not every week will be a positive loss in inches—life still comes at us and many of our other emotional triggers are touched off. We have learned to not beat ourselves up with an occasional slippage or major trauma. In fact I have gone thru several deep emotional issues during this year and during the hardest days/weeks I was able to maintain my progress, in spite of reaching for my old comfort foods. With the great results I have had with the GK Lifestyle and the ongoing training calls with Dr Nugent I am confident I can assist many others create change and freedom in their lives, inch by inch to discover the real person inside.
